8 Ways to Get Back into Workout Mode

R. Elizabeth C. Kitchen

We all know that exercise is critical to our overall health. As women, getting regular exercise not only helps us maintain our weight, but it also helps in the prevention of chronic disease. If we have stopped working out, it can be difficult to start up again, but it is important that we do. Here we will discuss some tips and tricks to help you get back on track.

Getting Prepared

For us to get back on track and stay on track, we need to be prepared. This includes making sure you have the right shoes and workout clothes, the right equipment or a gym membership, replenishing foods and snacks and anything you personally need for your workouts.

Start Small and Build

If you have not worked out for even a week or two, you may not be able to go full force right away, so start a little smaller and then build to your fitness comfort level. You do not want to injure yourself or burn yourself out.

Create Consistency

Start a consistent schedule for your workouts. If you are a morning person, get your workout in at the same time every morning that you workout. If you are a person who rather workout later in the day, pick a time and stick to it. Also, make sure your sleep and meals are regular too and this will help to keep you on schedule.

Workout Logs

Start tracking your workouts with workout logs. This will help you keep track of when you worked out, how long you exercised, what you did and it is also motivating to see what you are achieving.

Get a Friend

Do you have a friend who also wants to get back to her workout routine? Have her join you. You can help to keep each other accountable. Plus, it is often fun and motivating to work out with a friend.

Reward Yourself

Every 30 days, give yourself a reward as long as you consistently kept up with your workout routine. This can be that pair of shoes you have been dying for, a lazy night on the couch watching a good movie or anything else you love, but never really ever indulge in.

Do Not Stop

This should go without saying, but we women have a bad habit of putting other people ahead of ourselves. We are incredibly unselfish that way. While not being selfish is generally a good thing, it can sabotage things like our workout routine. Do not skip your workout. Example: Your loved ones want to spend some times with you. Instead of skipping your workout, do something fun and active with them. This way you burn those calories while getting some quality time in.

Do Something You Enjoy

If you hate your workout, you will likely not keep up with it. Find exercises you like and do those. If you hate running, don't run. Walk or bike instead. The key is to find something that gets your heart rate up that you enjoy.
