No, I don't want you to get him to do your homework. I want you to actually make friends with him. Intelligence is like a germ. The more you're around it, the more you catch it.
2. Get to know your professor.
If a professor likes and trusts you, he is much more likely to give you an extension for a paper. Also, if they know you are committed to succeeding in their class, they will go out of their way to help you.
3. Try (however hard it is) to find something you actually enjoy about the class.
If you go to class everyday thinking, "God, I hate this class. It's so stupid. I don't even know why I'm here 'cause I'm probably gonna fail it anyway." You'll either hate it or you'll fail or both. Think not? Try it. I dare you. No, I dare you not to. Just don't.
4. Do the Study group thing (just not with your friends).
When it comes to math and sciences, study groups can be particularly helpful. Just don't study with your friends. You know all you're going to do is play around and get nothing done.
5. Study alone.
Personally, I study best alone. I suggest this if you are easily distracted. And don't study in your room. Most likely there's a TV, computer, mini fridge, and an Ipod in there. Your productiveness will decrease by 60%. Yes, I've done plenty of studies on this.
6. Don't cram.
I don't know why people do this. How can you do well on your exam if you haven't even had a good night's sleep? You'll be a freakin' zombie. Go to sleep and do your studying in thirty minute increments over several days.
7. Prepare for class.
This is hard to do. Professors give you a billion pages to read and expect you to get that done plus four other classes worth. Try your best. Read at least half of it, so you can keep up with what's going on. Also, you can at least answer questions on that half of the reading.
8. Participate.
This goes along with the last piece of advice. In order to participate, you need to prepare. Don't let your participation grade go to hell, because you're unprepared or shy. If all else fails, ask a dumb question once a class.
