New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw has been getting a large amount of first carries this August. Bradshaw's backfield mate Brandon Jacobs, currently first on the team's depth chart at running back, isn't concerned.
"I feel good," Jacobs stated after Monday's first team practice. "My body is good. I feel fast. I'm just coming in and getting some work in, and getting a little sweat going. I'm trying to get ready for the long grind that is coming up."
Jacobs was asked about the roles both he and Bradshaw will play this upcoming season, and the reason behind Bradshaw playing with the first team. "I have no idea," Jacobs answered. "I don't know the reason, I really don't know anything about it. I'm just out here to try and help us win. That's about it. No matter who gets the first carry or what. I'm still there and I'm not dead, so we still have a chance to win it. I definitely see (the two-running back system) continuing. If not, that's the decision that they made. I just hope we win."
Plaxico Burress was also brought up, mainly because of Jacobs sporting a "Free 17" t-shirt. "(Jacobs and Burress) talked once a week before camp started," Jacobs explained. "I'm just hoping for the best for him and his family. Hopefully, he can get out and continue his career."
Brandon Jacobs is arguably the most motivated and hard hitting running back in the NFL. With his track record of injuries, however, it would be foolish to bet on him playing in all 16 games in 2010. The fact that Ahmad Bradshaw is seeing the bulk of the carries with the first team suggests that head coach Tom Coughlin and others within the organization are concerned about Jacobs' health. By staying fresh throughout preseason, however, Jacobs could once again be a very formidable foe for opponents, especially late in games.
