80's Rock Music for Road Trips

Music to Travel With

Kelly Spies
Are you a fan of '80s rock music? Heading out on a road trip? Combine the two and rock out on the road to your destination with these suggestions.

Def Leppard - Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar on Me was a song that rocked us in the 80's and surprisingly it almost never came in to existence. The band, almost through with recording Hysteria, added this one last song as a last resort. Traveling the open roads has never been the same since and your road trip won't be as much fun without it.

Motley Crue - You can never go wrong on a road trip with a great Motley Crue Cd. With 18 albums full of songs like Girls, Girls, Girls and Kickstart My Heart, selecting your Favorite Motley Crue tunes is only a challenge when you don't listen to them all.

John Cougar Meloncamp - Most of us can probably remember the first time we heard the gritty voice of John Cougar Meloncamp. He hasn't lost his appeal and Jack and Diane can still get your feet tapping as the road passes beneath them.

Metallica - When you want something fast, pounding and screaming opt for Metallica's One. Songs like Fuel and Unforgiven have the potential to blow the car doors off.

Skid Row - These guys are probably my favorite 80's rock band to listen to in the car. The guitar riffs and screams coming from Sebastian Bach are enough to keep me from being bored out of mind. When you're looking for music to get your head banging, give 18 and Life, Sweet Little Sister and Youth Gone Wild a try.

AC/DC - A road trip isn't a road trip without a little Highway to Hell. There ain't another band out there that is as much fun to crank up the volume, roll down the windows and rock out to.

Guns N' Roses - As much as we've waited for a new release by GnR, we all know that isn't happening. But that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with their previously recorded tracks. In fact when you're looking for a screaming good time to alleviate the boredom of the flatlands of North Dakota, slap a little Paradise City, Welcome to The Jungle or Mr. Brownstone into the Cd player.

Twisted Sister - We can forget that Dee Snider has been a participant on Gone Country just by listening to some of his older work. Rage against the road with songs like We're Not Gonna Take it and I Wanna Rock.

Lita Ford - This is for the ladies in the car. Lita Ford, managed by Sharon Osbourne found success with her hit Kiss Me Deadly. So when the ladies need a little feminine rocker music give them a little Lita. Kiss Me Deadly will have you singing away the miles.

Great White - This Southern California rock band has the perfect combination of blues and glam rock which makes it just the right tempo for a road trip. Once Bitten Twice Shy and Rock Me will have your car rockin' in proper 80's fashion.

Whether you're listening to Ratt, Cinderella or Ozzy Osbourne raod trips just aren't the same without music. As one colleague recently shared with me, music is the key for not offing your friends on a road trip.

  • Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar on Me almost didn't happen.
  • Lita Ford was managed by Sharon Osbourne.
  • Highway to Hell is perhaps the best rocking road trip song ever made.
Pour Some Sugar on Me was inspired during a bathroom break while recording Hysteria.

Having serious fits of nostalgia here! My sister in law appeared in a John Mellencamp video, briefly, but with clothes on. ;)
