82 and Counting, the Gift of Me

A Double Shot of Dad's Day Poetry

M.E. Lilly
82 and Counting
82 and counting
no teeth and no tattoos
lover, writer, painter
an artist tried and true

82 and counting
no hair and no toupee
sinner, sailor, fighter
a bachelor all the way

82 and counting
no bags, no ball and chain
traveler, dreamer, thinker
a chieftain of the plain

82 and counting
no fear and no cold feet
doer, giver, winner
the dad inside of me

The Gift of Me
Above the canopy of stars
That reach across light years of time
The blaze of patriarchal love
Shines brightly on by pure design

So many treasured memories
Spanning the bridges of our days
The glow of every setting sun
Glints warmly in my father's face

So many captured images
Etching the sandstone of our minds
An eternal rush of happiness
Lights up the dark of days gone by

Beyond the galaxies of life
That burst in boundless symphony
The power of my father's love
Brings glory to the gift of me

Nicely done.....seems like your father was worthy of honor and had a lasting impact on your life.
