8tracks: the New Music Sharing Website

8tracks is the newest online "mixtape" website. It allows users to put music mixes online so they can share them with the whole world. In the tradition of Muxtape, 8tracks takes what made that website good and improved upon it in many ways. Just in case you have never used 8tracks before, here is a quick run down on what you can do with the website.

It's very easy to create a mix, after taking a few minutes to register you click create a mix and get going. There are two option for adding music. The first is to upload music from your own computer and adding it to the list, this takes up to a minute per song. Sometimes the song won't load, don't get upset, there is a great reason for this. The song is already on the website! This is the greatest feature of 8tracks, you can find loads of music to use without having to have it in your possession. You can search for the music by song, artist, or genre. I'm really impressed about the selection of music, I even found some songs I can't find online any other way.

You can put your songs in any order you want, though due to legal issues, it will only play in that particular order the first time someone listens to the mix, after that it will replay them randomly. You're required to put at least 8 tracks (hence the name) to your mix, I don't know of an upper limit but most users stick to 8 for the most part. Also you can not have more then 2 songs by the same artist or album, which in addition to to being for legal reasons, leads to helping

Another great part of the website is that you can create as many mixes as you want. This was Muxtape's flaw, if you wanted to create a new mix, or you got rid of your old one. 8Tracks allows you to make lots more, add a title and a genre, and you're done.

The mixes are searchable on the front page of the site. You can search by user, genre, artist, or title. This really helps develop a community of users. 8Tracks also allows other users to leave comments about mixes furthering the community feel.

8tracks is a great website with fantastic features. Most forum communities have threads that share the members' 8tracks lists. With it's popularity increasing, 8tracks is set to become the next big music website.
