8-Year Old Has Walt Disney World Souvenirs Confiscated

An 8-year old had his souvenirs confiscated by TSA agents when going through security at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport on his way back to North Carolina.

The child was on a special family vacation after the recent death of his stepfather. Cheryl Chao is complaining to all who will listen that her younger cousin's souvenirs that were bought to cheer him up were taken away from him. The souvenirs include a Pirates of the Caribbean sword, a light saber and a wooden gun.

Chao has stated, "You have to use some common sense and clearly these two agents used no common sense".

While the TSA has stated that these items are prohibited, does it not seem like common sense that these items should not be placed in carry-on suitcases? The restrictions have been around since 2001, and are nothing new. If peanut butter is prohibited in your luggage, would it not make sense to put toys that are replicas of weapons into your checked bags?

The TSA has released a comment in regards to Chao's dispute on her cousin's souvenirs being confiscated.

"Passengers who bring a prohibited item such as a replica weapon to their checkpoint have a number of options, including putting the item in their checked baggage, returning it to their vehicle or mailing it to themselves....There are mail stations at each of the checkpoints at Fort Lauderdale."

Perhaps not everyone has received the memo on heightened restrictions at airports.
