9 of the Most Important Heroes Today

Where Would We Be Without Them?

Marty K.
Most of us are busy in modern life and go about our affairs hurriedly. It's easy to forget, or fail to recognize those who fulfill vital functions. It's nice to take some time to consider special people who are genuine heroes.

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #1: Computer Techs

My computer was broken down for a couple of days and after futile attempts to repair it, I called a company to send out a technician. When the doorbell rang, it reminded of the days the doctor used to come over when I was young.

Now, the gentleman had the classic appearance of a computer geek and did not match the description of a typical hero. Nevertheless, I could intuitively perceive that he would save me and remedy my situation like no one else. In my opinion, this breed is truly one of the unsung heroes of our day and age. Are these guys rivaling the jocks for getting girls?

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #2: People at the Workplace

When the business deal is on the line, there are people in my company known as takeover agents or sales closers, who help to secure the transaction. Not only do they help me, but they finish all of the final details with the client so that he or she receives the best service possible. This enhances the image of the company, provides genuine benefits for our customers and makes everyone happy. I do my part and they're there to help. The management at my workplaces also happens to be very decent and helpful toward everyone, so they're champions in my book, as well.

Who are the valuable people at your place of employment? If you're an employer, then who are your important team members that you would regard as heroes?

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #3: Law Enforcement and Fire Emergency Personnel

Most citizens have received traffic citations and may tend to be unhappy with the police at times. However, they are there when you really need them and I have found most of them to be honest and ethical in my area. They have assisted me in the past with some break-in situations and other matters. The ones I know and trust have great judgment and people skills. They know what to do at the right time in any situation.

Firemen perform a wide variety of emergency duties including those of paramedics and they have achieved a heightened level of awareness in recent years. Like cops, they help people in need.

I believe that it should go without saying that all of these people are to be admired greatly.

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #4: Public Transportation Drivers

I've had some chronic problems with my car and I've been riding the bus a lot as of late. I'm standing out in the elements, then I look down the street and here comes the bus to save me.

It's pretty awesome to see the driver coming and controlling the vehicle with expertise. It's comfortable inside and the bus is so big that the careless drivers on the road aren't going to mess with it. The bus driver is a hero to me right now, but there are people in other modes of transportation that might be equally as helpful for you.

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #5: Roommates or Family Members

As a single person, I live with a couple of roommates. They happen to be decent, pay their share of the rent on time and help me often when needed. We all live our lives and don't interact that much, but it is nice having them around and they are important people in my life.

Of course, if you're living with family members, then these are probably the biggest unsung heroes of all and are often taken for granted. That might be especially true if you're young or may not appreciate your wives or husbands as much as you could, or should.

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #6: Teachers Who Care

Although the present day education system has its flaws, there are a great number of professional, highly dedicated teachers who care about their students and will have a profound effect upon them for the rest of their lives.

The better teachers usually put their students before themselves and inspire them to achieve greatly in life. The ones I recall often had a terrific sense of humor, along with a large amount of compassion and understanding.

I'm thinking about expressing my thanks to my fourth grade teacher for enlightening me about sportsmanship. What have your teachers done for you and how can you convey your thanks? Teachers who care are not only unsung heroes, but they're also worthy of the highest respect and recognition.

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #7 The Armed Forces

The importance and appreciation of our people in uniform can be expressed in a number of ways, but there's an interesting occurrence I experienced not long ago.

While doing a sales call on the phone, I accidentally had contacted a Navy recruiting office. It seemed a bit awkward at first, because I had asked a ridiculous-sounding, impertinent question. However, when the man identified himself, I proceeded to tell him directly what a great job he and his guys were doing. He could tell that I meant what I said, that I was being honest and was speaking from the heart. His level of reciprocated appreciation for what I said was overwhelming, but I was simply expressing what I actually believed and felt.

Conversely, some people today have contempt for the military, not to mention any particular ones. I find this sad, but of course, this means that the honor and courage of our service people is largely taken for granted.

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #8: Doctors, Nurses and Medical Workers

It is pretty obvious that we depend upon the medical world when we are ailing or are injured. I really believe that their strongest area is trauma treatment and the vital functions that emergency teams perform. The best in the profession really care about people and have entered the field for all the right reasons. Sometimes I wonder if we appreciate them enough.

9 of the Most Important Heroes Today #9: Trash Collectors and Janitors

Here are people who don't have the most glamorous job in the world, but again, where would we be without them. In my city, the big truck comes around twice a week and the guys jump off to do all of the dirty, but critical work to keep our environment clean and sanitary. At a recent place of employment, crews were busy all day keeping the workplace tidy, healthy and disease-free.

This concludes the list of the 9 most important heroes. These people are all significant to me, but which ones are essential to you, and what others come to mind? It is my hope that this will stir the thought process of many people and bring about a greater level of appreciation for others in their daily lives.

  • Some people don't look the part, but nevertheless, they are heroes to many.
  • In our rushed pace of living, it is easy to take people for granted or fail to recognize them.
  • If people truly value others, it will come across.
It is sad to me that some people have contempt, disregard or lack of appreciation for valuable people in our society.
