1. Take everything out of the drawers and cupboards and start there. Throw away anything that you do not use or probably never will use. Place the most commonly used items where they are most handy and you will find them. It is your kitchen and that can be wherever you want it as long as it is handy to get to when you need it.
2. Place pots and pans near the oven where you use them. Any cooking utensils can be placed near the oven as well.
3. Check the expiration date on food, medicine and spices. Some of this stuff is badly outdated and needs to be thrown away. You will feel better about organizing your kitchen just doing this important task.
4. Place silverware and dishes closet to where you dine to make it easy to set the table. Be sure and use silverware holders to create more space in the drawers where you put them.
5. Put toasters, blenders, blenders, and things you do not use everyday in the pantry or a cupboard where they are out of the way. Freeing up counter space will leave your kitchen cleaner and give you more room to cook when you need it.
6. If you use your refrigerator or a bulletin board to post your schedule keep it organized as well. Out with the old schedules and up with the new. If you store bills or mail in your kitchen keep it in a handy place out of sight.
7. Put any knives. cleaning products, or alcohol in safe place and away from little kids if you have them.
8. You do not want to wait to clean your refrigerator only when you organize your kitchen, but if it has been awhile do it now.
9. Take a step back and admire your handy work. If you see anything out of place put it where you want it before you consider yourself done.
Organizing your kitchen is a personal choice, but as they say in the Nike TV commercial "just do it." You will feel better after you are done and the next time you are cooking you will thank yourself for doing such a good job.
