9 Top Christmas Gift Cards for Teachers

Gayle Crabtree
Teachers give so much throughout the year that it's only fair to remember them at Christmas. Not only do they teach our children but many of them dig into their own pockets to help provide classroom needs.

I used to watch my husband's mother purchase jackets or school supplies for students who needed them. She would have purchased for her entire second grade class if she could have. No one asked her to do this. She did it because she cared.

Christmas gift cards for teachers can help ease the burden of unmet classroom necessities or provide a needed stress-break when most needed. If you aren't sure what to get your child's teacher this year here's a list that will help.

#1
Office supply stores
Teachers can use this to buy ink or toner, copy paper, a new memory card their own laptop or put toward that camcorder they've been eyeing. This is an item that's sure to be appreciated. Order online or buy one at your local store.

#2
Discount retailers
Stores like Wal-Mart are frequented by teachers. Where else can you pick up groceries, get construction paper and have the car's oil changed at the same time? This may be the perfect thing for your teacher. Other possibilities include Target, K-Mart or something similar. Purchase these locally.

#3
Amazon.com
It's hard to top this idea. Educators like Amazon for resources, supplies and all kinds of books. It's hard to go wrong here. Perhaps best of all, you can purchase these online and email. A few clicks and you're done.

#4
Restaurants
Is there anyone who doesn't appreciate a meal out now and then? Teachers are no exception. Even a fast food card can provide a quick dinner in a packed schedule.

#5
Attractions
Attractions are another great place to look. Is there an art museum, zoo or planetarium in your area? These may offer unique possibilities. Pick them up from the attractions themselves.

#6
Visa/Mastercard
These are good choices because they can be used anywhere. Brick and mortar stores will usually accept them as will almost all online stores. Buyers are often charged a fee when purchasing. It can pay to shop around. Some of the lowest fees can come from banks but not always.

#7
Coffeehouses
Look to Starbucks for pure caffeine and sugary indulgence. Need I say more? Visit your local store or order online.

#8
Arts and Crafts
Hobby Lobby, Michaels and A.C. Moore are major arts and crafts stores. You can purchase gift cards either in the storefront or online. Even if your teacher isn't a craft person there are still candles, papers, party supplies and lots of items which may be of interest.

#9
Gas
Truly a gift that almost everyone can use.

I haven't any teachers to buy gifts for now, but these gift card ideas work for other lines of work, also. The gas card is especially helpful, I think. rcj
