90210 Episode 1.7 Review Hollywood Forever

Hollywood Forever 1.7

The seventh episode of the first season of 90210 aired on 10/7/08. The episode is titled Hollywood Forever with the main focus on Adriana's drug problem. Warning: my episode review contains plot spoilers.

Hollywood Forever finds Silver celebrating her "half birthday" at a Hitchcock movie showing at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Annie and Ethan further their potential romance by working together on a school project. Ryan is depressed by Kelly's two week trip to see Dylan so he takes up internet dating. All of these are small storylines compared to storyline concerning Adrianna and Naomi.

Naomi confronts Adrianna on her "rumored" drug addiction which of course Adrianna denies. Adrianna continues to abuse cocaine but does get a role in a horror movie. Adrianna tells Naomi but is obviously high and Naomi finally gets her to confess her problem. Unfortunately at that moment, the police raid the school on a drug church. A panicked Adrianna pleads for Naomi's help. Naomi takes the vial of cocaine and ties to flush it down the toilet but is caught by a policewoman. Naomi is arrested and faces possible jail time unless Adrianna confesses. Adrianna decides to do the right thing but quickly changes her mind when she realizes her mom's dire financial situation. Adrianna instead overdoses on cocaine. As the paramedics are trying to revive Adrianna, an angry Naomi leaves a message on Adrianna's cell phone saying Adrianna is now "dead to her." How ironic.

That finally scene of an apparently dead Adrianna and an angry and unknowing Naomi is so moving. The writers sure know how to pack a punch. The depressing ending is quite a contrast to some very funny scenes throughout the episode.

My personal favorite is a scene at the Wilson's. Annie is frantically searching for her crying robotic baby and finds it in the corner in the bathroom. Debra deadpans "No body puts baby in the corner." Harry smirks but her kids look on clueless (including my boyfriend) while I am dying laughing. If I have you don't get the joke; I'm sorry, you obliviously didn't love the eighties.

But if you did get the joke, then you will also love the banter between Matt and the new student Kimberly. Kimberly is actually an undercover drug agent which of course explains why she can quote Fast Times at Ridgemont High perfectly. It also explains why she looks way older then sixteen but apparently I am the only one who thinks so because she has no problems fitting in. I am sure it helps that she is an absolutely smart arse because what teenager isn't.
