$9.99: Movie Review

3/5 Stars

"$9.99" is a whacky, fun, stop motion animation movie about a bunch of people living in an apartment complex in Sydney, Australia. These people are familiar with each other but aren't exactly friends - they merely exist in the same space and time.

I dug the story until the end at which point it just got really weird. I'd have given this 4 stars but the ending left me hanging and disappointed. There are several missed plot opportunities (mainly surrounding the old man) in my opinion, and the film could have been a lot better if certain other avenues were taken.

This would have worked really well as a live action indie production. It had the feel of a quirky indie flick, but perhaps budget got in the way. For a stop motion film, a genre I almost never watch, I thought it was decent. It won't blow anyone's socks off, but it's short enough that it's not time wasted either.
