99designs: A Way for Graphic Designers to Make Money Online

Vanessa Bartlemus

Are you a graphic designer looking for a way to make money online? 99designs is a good place for you to check out.

Here's how it works: People who are looking for a new logo, website design, business card design, etc. go to 99designs and set up a contest. They put in the details of how they want the design to look. They also set the prize money to be paid to the winning designer. Then that's where you come in.

After signing up for a free account, you can browse through the list of contests available and choose something that catches your eye. The list gives you a quick view of the contest: what it's about, how much it will pay for the winning design, when the contest ends, and how many entries there are. On the left-hand sidebar, you can narrow down the list of contests you see by choosing a specific project type, such as logo designs, webpage designs, T-shirt designs, banner ad designs, and more.

Once you find a contest that interests you, click on it and then click on the design brief to read about what the contest holder is looking for. The design brief will let you know things such as the colors to be included in the design, the feel and look the company is going for, and any other details they think may be helpful.

Then get to work designing! Once you've submitted your design, the contest holder will give it a star rating from 1-5. He or she may also provide feedback to help steer you in the right direction. Once the contest ends, the contest holder will pick a winner.

For more information on payment, copywright issues, contest types, and more, see 99designs' Help page.
