Will the Tier 5 Extension Bill Actually Pass?
The bill is headlined by Debbie Stabenow from Michigan, a state that has 13.5% unemployment. A press release on her Web site reads "Across our state, more than 35,000 people who have lost their jobs have also exhausted their unemployment insurance benefits. I know that these men and women want to work and have been trying their best to find jobs in this difficult economy. My legislation cuts taxes for businesses that hire new workers who have been looking for work the longest. My bill also provides 20 more weeks of unemployment insurance to people in states like ours with the highest number of people out of work."
The 99er Tier 5 SB3706 bill has a one-two punch, which both provides incentives for job creation and gives displaced workers a little extra time to try to find that elusive job.
The most recent extension of benefits was barely passed, as GOP opposition made it difficult to find an agreeable way to fund the bill. The bill had to 'trim the fat' before it was passed, removing a $25 weekly benefit and also the extension of COBRA subsidies.
COBRA subsidies are also not present in S3706, as 99ers have already exhausted their eligibility for 18 months of post-employment benefits.
The bill will only help states with unemployment rates of 7.5% or higher, helping to ensure that the only people with access to benefits are those who legitimately cannot find a job - not those trying to milk the system. Such is a crucial argument in play, as some believe that people will stay unemployed as long as benefits are available.
Of course, this is not a bipartisan bill. Debbie Stabenow and eleven other democratic Senators are sponsoring the bill. It's going to be interesting to see if it gains GOP support, especially because it's time for the mid-term elections, and the response from the republicans made them less than popular during the passage of the last extension bill.

Post a Commenti am a 99rd too.i am having trouble finding a job beause i dont have the gas money to go a job invterview. i am behind my bills,my sisters cant help me beause one is in the same boat i am in ,the other sister is on ssi. i went to the wefare in ohio, i cant get no help only $200.00 in food stamp food,but that will not pay my bills. the conrgess and ombam dont care about the america people,they just help other countrys and give the war money a war we didnt need.i like to know where are the jobs at? i like to have one.thank a lot pepole in the white house for nothing.god will get you for you done to the america pepole.

The choice is simple: if you are unemployed, on unemployment, running out of unemployment or have already ran out of unemployment without a job to show for your wait and efforts how could you possibly vote republican? Republicans have shown themselves to be heartless, insensitive and irresponsible about the plight of those they left without a job after the Republican Recession. There are 15 million unemployed Americans. That's a staggering number and a potential threat to our stability as a Nation and our economic well being. 15 million voters who can make sure Republicans don't take over Congress and finished what they started in 2008: destroying what's left of the American econonmy.
I have been unemployed since 2-08 and my benefits stopped in march 2010. I have maxed out 3 credit cards to survive at $15,000 and growing. I have signed and e-mailed congress,senate, white house since to no evail, how can we help other countries but not our own?
So tell me how much did the 104 million pounds of aid we just sent Haiti once again cost? we have it to help others but when it comes to Americans we do not have the money. I say get them fat cats who don't have to worry how they are going to pay their bills or put food or their tables out of office and let them find out what it is like. We pay their salaries with our tax money so they can then turn around and deny us the basic fundamentals of life. Who the hell do they think they are. We need to take our country back. If Obama does not do executive privilege and get this done for us right now then he is no better then Bush. Obama needs to use his power more to help the people who put him where he is today.
By the time this is voted on there will be more out of a lifeline. Where is the unemployed ? What has happen to the media knowing more and more out of a job. If you think that if you have lifeline now and those who have been told to stop the blogging or site communication pointing out the correct problems we are still in is going to correct this you are crazy. The mid election still voting on the ones who got us in this mess . What is wrong you have no right to be frustrated you caused it!
