99x's Big Day Out Atlanta Festival

Plenty of Bands for Cheap

James Kings
99x, Atlanta's alternative rock station, is sponsoring the Big Day Out at HiFi Buys Amphitheater on June 2nd, with the crowds being let in at noon. This is the same event that brought Green Day, Incubus, Beck and more is back this summer. An all day event! Tickets start at $9.97, ironically and intentionally--since that's what 99x is on the dial. The cheapest tickets are on the lawn (general admission), and 4 ticket packages can be purchased for $7.50 a ticket (a steal!) on ticketmaster.com. Standing room pit runs $50, reserved seating is $20 to $40 bucks a pop. The line-up isn't a shabby one, especially considering the price.

Coming to town is Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Audioslave to start with, also, Satellite Party which was conceived by Perry Farrell--frontman for Jane's Addiction. Cake, too, that sings that song 'The Distance' will be appearing and INTERPOL. In addition are The Almost and Madina Lake. But probably most excitingly is The Bravery and the Plain White T's, both of which have struck up some songs that are receiving radio play at the moment. The Bravery having just released their newest album, "Time Won't Let Me Go", in stores May 22nd that features the album titled track--"Time Won't Let Me Go". Plain White T's have their catchy titled song, "Hate (I Really Don't Like You)" from the album "Every Second Counts", and their more mellow song "Hey There Delilah" from the album "All That We Need". Both these bands should be worth the $10, and if not lynch them and not me.

Looking for something to do on a Saturday, then, by all means get a ticket now. This concert event will be an event for sure, and it's a great value without a cut on quality. This is one of the cheaper concert events this summer. And since it's also sponsored by Bud Light, even if the music sucks the beverages won't! Easily accessible, HiFi Buys is right off I-75, just south of downtown Atlanta and not far from the Hartsfield Airport. To get there from I-75/85, take it to the Langford Freeway East Exit and just simply follow the signs. Parking is available at the venue and well lit. Rain or shine, then, come down for a day of music (hopefully in the sun), and take advantage of the 4 ticket package and bring some friends.
