A 12 Year Olds Autobiography- Part 2

"My Favorite Relatives"

Sherri Thornhill
In my first article on the recent discovery of my 6th grade autobiography, I shared my "When I Was Born" piece. You can find it Here. Today I dive back into my writings as a 12 year old girl growing up in Fresno, California. Part two will be about "My Favorite Relatives" and I include any misspelled words or grammatical errors I may have made in my original writings.

Sherri at age 12: "Some of my favorite relatives are my aunt Sharon, my uncle Roy and my aunt Janice. I like all of them very much.

My aunt Sharon is always acting happy even when she isn't. My mom named me after her because everybody called her Sherri, and now when I go to her house and somebody else is there, when they say, "Sherri", I think they are talking to me.

My favorite uncle is my uncle Roy. He takes me to the Fresno Falcons hockey games and buys me all the food I want at the hockey game. I like him a lot.

My aunt Janice is my favorite relative out of all. She is always nice to me. I like going back to Texas to visit her. I love her a lot."

Now for some updates on those wonderful relatives of mine. My Aunt Sharon lost her husband not long before I wrote that page as a 12 year old. She was devastated but still tried to put on a happy face, which I picked up on even then. I really loved her and my Uncle Don, the man who taught me "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a Bear". Aunt Sharon is happily remarried and still living in California. We aren't close anymore but I still love her to pieces.

My Uncle Roy is still one of my favorite guys on the planet. He was my dads brother, and he did an incredible job of stepping in for me when my dad was not around. He is married and living happily in Clovis, Ca. I was able to tell him at my dad's funeral, how much he meant to me as a kid and how much I loved him then and still do.

My Aunt Janice was a second mom to me and I truly adored her and looked up to her. She was tough and loyal and always told me that I would grow up to be somebody. She let me know she was proud of me as a kid and didn't mind me talking her ear off about childish things. Aunt Janice passed away from breast cancer my freshman year of high school. I'm not sure I have ever felt such a pain in my heart as the night my tear filled eyed mom told me that she was gone. It broke my heart, even though I knew it was coming. I still think about her and miss her every day. I wish she were here in Texas now that I live here and I know we would have had many laughs at my childhood shenanigans.

Sherri, Very lovely. I'm always entranced by the insights that children have and how they share them.

Isn't it interesting how who you are today is somehow connected to your childhood. I wrote a lot, too, when I was a youngster, and when I look back at mine, those memories are still all around me. Thanks for sharing these pieces Sherri!
