A 4th of July Playlist

Many people will be at the beach, in the pool, or having barbecue on the 4th of July. I've put together a playlist that has a little bit in it for every generation, from classics to oldies to alternative rock.

American Pie - Don McLean - The quintessential American summer song. Everyone knows at least some of the words, and those who don't will fake it.
American Woman - The Guess Who - Lenny Kravitz covered this one in the 1990s, so I leave it up to you to decide which one makes your playlist, if not both.
God Bless the U.S.A. - Lee Greenwood - If you're having a decidedly agnostic event, you may want to leave this one out. It's a pretty anthem though.
American Soldier - Toby Keith - One of the many country songs that has come out in recent years. Toby Keith seems to be a favorite of non-country sorts, as well.
Liberty Bell March - John Philip Sousa - Some people might recognize this one as the theme to Monty Python's Flying Circus. It's a march typical of Sousa, and very energetic.
Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree - Andrews Sisters - One of the so-called Oldies but Goodies, the Andrews Sisters have a decidedly American sound to them.
Independence Day - Martina McBride - Another country selection, this has more of a country lover's flavor to it.
Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen - No classic rock compilation would be complete without it.
American Girls - Weezer and Soul Coughing - A quirky, alternative rock song. May not impress older audiences, though there's no language to worry about.
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd - A classically American tune with a southern flavor to it.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
