A 6th Grade Essay Revisited: What the Future Holds

Carl Whitaker
First off, I want to begin by saying don't judge! This was written when I was in 6th grade, and I left the essay completely unformated. As you see it now is exactly how it was written back when I was at the ripe age of 11. With that being said, enjoy the essay, written from the perspective of a young child with some optimism!

------------------------------ ------------------------

Someday maybe a long time from now, maybe not too distant away, I will be reading this essay, years after I wrote it, and think of how ludicrous this was. I could possibly be thinking, "I depicted my future like a psychic!" Anyway, I have big hopes for my future.

For my dream house, I'd prefer to live in the country, away from the big city. Inside the house would be many rooms such as: arcade room, exercise room, basketball court, and all of your other standard rooms in a house. I'd like it to be big, but not a massive mansion. In this house I would like a two children, a boy and a girl, about three years apart, and a nice wife who likes sports, is pretty, and is a good Christian. Unlike most people who want nice, expensive, luxurious cars, I'd prefer one of your average Joe's, such as a white pickup truck. Basically, I want a nice home, and a car that gets me where I want to go.

For my dream job, I'd strongly like to become a lawyer. It's a good job that pays good, and I would have the possibility of starting my own business and working my own hours. The beneficial things about this job are: you help people with their problems, and you could work in a big city, such as Dallas, or a small city, like Canton. The starting salary of this job, if I'm not mistaken, is $60,000. A typical workday would be, get up, eat a donut, drink coffee, go to work, help people, make money, come home, play with the kids, eat supper, and go to bed. On weekends I would golf and do things around the house.

For college, I'm extremely interested in OU (Oklahoma University for you Texas Longhorns), Kentucky, Arizona, and seriously, not jokingly, TJC. I recently discovered that OU accepts 88% of the students who apply. The tuition is pretty expensive, so I plan on getting a half to full scholarship in basketball.

As you can most likely tell, I have immense plans for the future. Some of them, twenty years from now, some seven years from now. One thing about the future is that it is always happening.
