A Back-to-School Party for the Kids!

Give Them Something to Look Forward To

Summer is coming to an end and the kids are looking forward to a new year and the next grade. They think about who their new teacher will be and if their very best friend will be in the same class. They are getting excited as you purchase new clothes, books, supplies and everything a child will need for study.

You are ready for them to return to school so you don't have to worry when they are home alone while you're working. You can relax and if you are lucky enough to be home on a day when they are in class you can sip a cup of cocoa and watch a movie without interruption. So Nice.

But how can you make it better for them and for you? How about a celebration of this special time. It is the last party of the season and it's fun when they have a few things to remember the end of summer and the beginning of school.

Tell your own children it's time for a back to school party. Choose a time and date then let them invite their friends. You can plan together and then add in a few surprises of you own. A few games, a few gifts and some food will have the kids smiling and ready to learn. Make sure it is all age appropriate.

Lets start with the decorations. This is going to be a party partly indoors and partly outdoors. Just like school. For the outdoor portion of the party plan a few games from your own school days. Jump rope, circle tag, hide and seeks and maybe bad mitten. This will begin the party and burn off some of the energy they all have. Make sure there is an adult watching over the outdoor games at all times! This will prevent injuries best avoided by supervision. Use whistles just like the teachers on the playground.

For the indoor portion of the party decorate with a stack of books in the center of a table placed on a tan colored cloth. It helps to bring the feel of fall into the room. On top of the books place a cake decorated with a school theme such as study equations, a desk top or even a play ground. Any flavor is fine as long as the kids love it. Serve Root beer Floats to drink. Use napkins with a school theme.

All decorations can be purchase at a dollar store, department store, gift shop or party store or you can create your own with colors. It isn't that hard to decorate a kitchen like a classroom beginning a new season with a few posters and your own drawings.

Next is the indoor activities. Give each child a picture to color they can take home for their own family and one to color that will go on your refrigerator for the rest of the party. Kids love to have their work displayed for everyone to view so make sure there is enough room for everyone. Finishe off with a game of charades. Now is a good time for them to begin to think in terms of vision, thinking through a problem and finding a solution. This is the perfect game to start the brain thinking again before class begins.

Select age appropriate gifts to go home with each child. A lunch bag from a dollar store is great as the gift bag and will come in handy during the school year. Fill it will pens and pencils, a pair of socks, a workbook of some kind for math, reading or writing for their age. Add to that a candy bar, a health bar and a small reading book. You can now purchase many of the classic at a dollar store environment in paperback. What little girl wouldn't love Nation Velvet or little boy Call Of The Wild.

Your party is now complete. The parents had as much fun as the kids and they are all ready for that first day of class. There are so many ways you can go with this theme. Everything from books to art to math problems. You can even plan a community event or a community help event for the kids. Most of the time the kids can't wait for that first day of school so give them a party to celebrate the yearly event and your kids will look forward to the season with happiness.
