As I seen them coming up the walk way, I was ready, Bible in hand, waiting behind the door to have a talk about what is truth and what is fiction..
As they introduced themselves as Paul and John (I thought I was talking to the Beatles at first but then I remembered John is gone from this Earth) they asked me if I was a member of any religious organizations. I politely told them yes, but I am a devout Baptist Christian and that didn't believe in another doctrinal book that was written by their Prophet Joseph Smith.
They asked me why I didn't believe in this because if I can believe some of the things that Christianity teaches, as far fetched as they sound, surely I could understand why they are trying to get their views across so people could understand that the truth is in the Book of Mormon as well as the Bible.
I took my Bible and was ready to show them why. As soon as they seen I wasn't going to back down, Paul went to a man walking down the street and began to talk to him. this left me one on one with John. As I turned to Key passages of scripture in my Bible, I explained to them that I knew in deep detail what Mormonism is all about, and I gave them the lecture they were going to give to me.
I then asked John to show me in the book of Mormon where it says that there is many Gods that helped Humans come to Earth. He stood dumbfounded, and began flipping through his Book of Mormon. I told him it was in the book of Abraham. I then asked John "Why is it that the Latter day Saints offer a free Bible by calling a toll free number, when it directly contradicts what Mormonism is all about?" He couldn't answer me.
I asked him also Why they are in this neighborhood, being that the main population is predominately black? Again, No answer. I then turned to Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast"
Needless to say, this was the end of my brief entourage with John the Mormon.
After this conversation, I thought others may want to know what the differences are.
In this article I am going to give you a basic knowledge of Mormonism Versus Christianity and maybe some questions that have been boggling the religious minds of the world will be enlightened.
After studying both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I definitely see vast differences in Christianity and Mormonism.
For example, Mormons believe that Lucifer (Satan) and Jesus Christ are spiritual brothers, in which Jesus Christ progressed to godhood by learning the teachings. Being a Bible believer, I have a very difficult time believing that Jesus in all his perfection could share the same spiritual gene pool with a fallen angel, and if Jesus "Progressed to Godhead", this means he probably made mistakes which is an inevitable In the Bible, The book of Matthew Chapter 1 verse 18 reads:
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise:When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost."
Mormons also believe Jesus was procreated as a spirit child by Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Mother and that Jesus Christ was later conceived physically through sexual intercourse, which would be an abomination according to the scriptures of the Holy Bible, because Mary, the mother of Jesus was a virgin according to the Bible in the book of Matthew chapter 1 verse 23- "BEHOLD A VIRGIN SHALL BRING FORTH A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME EM-MAN'-U-EL, which being interpreted is, God with us."
In another example, Christians are taught and believe by faith that the Bible is the one true record of Christ and God's plan for mankind. It is perfect and infallible.
But in contrast to this belief, The Mormons believe that The Bible is corrupted, is missing precious pieces that complete the gospel's fullness,(1 Nephi 26)-"And after they go forth by the a hand of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews unto the Gentiles, thou seest the formation of that great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches; for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away."
So, why is it that They offer a free Holy Bible on a toll free number to anyone who wants one if it's corrupted?
All in all, I am not telling anyone what to believe.
I do however, believe putting 100% trust in any book, that is written by a man who was just as sinful as you and me, and who seen himself even more important than Jesus Christ, should be given a second thought.

Post a Comment4) In order for one to be a Prophet (such as supposedly Joseph Smith was), his prophecies must be 100% accurate and come true as prophesied...are you aware of the series of books which is no longer in print (that came directly from the Mormon Church) that state that basically not many of Joseph Smiths prophesies came true. Only the ones that he "copied" from the Holy Bible actually came true. 5) The basis for Mormonism is based on a lie as well- If God is perfect and makes no mistakes, then how could it be that Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith saying something like, "The Christians aren't doing what they were supposed to so lets get this right...here is the "new" gospel (in the form of Golden plates that wound up "missing") and do this thing the right way once and for all!?!" Oh, there is so much more to the story...not enough space to write it. It's a joke. My husband and I have 9 friends, two who are now very close who were raised in the Mormon church, or are still in the LDS church..
I think this article is SO awesome! Mormonisim is absolutely, positively NOT Christianity in any way, shape or form. It's based on a lie. Robert Switzer, I can understand where the confusion could come from. Afterall, Mormons are trained extremely well in how to take advantage of the lack of knowledge of individuals and twist the truth of God's word. 1)Where are the Golden Plates today? If God's word lives and has no secrets, how can it be lost, especially if His truths are for ALL people 2) Mormons preach that EVERYONE is going to heaven. There is no hell even. If this is true, then what's the point of the Bible 3) They believe that black people were a created when a portion of them chose to remain neutral in the battle that took place when the plan for salvation was set in motion. Some chose "God's plan" others chose to be fallen with Lucifer...the rest were cursed with black skin. Later, after much controversy, they Mormon church denied and removed those portions of scripture.....
Very interesting, what else makes them so different, I work with all Mormons, and need more info. Why would I choose to be a Catholic, and not a Mormon? I find Theology fasinating, yet confusing. If I was a person who knew no religion, why would I consider being a Mormom, vs any other? Just wondering?
Thanks,
Bernadette

Sorry for the second comment; I meant to finish below. But I mean, they consider Christ the son of God and our savior right? Aside from that, it's like Catholics vs. Protestants... just a smattering of little differences here and there. I like your closing sentence. I honestly don't know how anyone could look at a human-authored book as the ultimate truth. You might as well base your life around the Lord of the Rings.
Mormonism is a sect of Christianity though. The question isn't what makes them different, but what makes LDS different from all the other denominations.
Great info. Said beautifully and thank you for writing this.
Thanks for stating the differences in such clear language. I have heard this before, but with much more theological speak. Its refreshing to read it in everyday language. I am a Baptist (originally from OKC!!) and am in complete agreement with you.
