A Basic History of the Milwaukee Bucks Basketball Team

The Milwaukee Bucks are a professional basketball team that plays in the National Basketball Association. The Bucks play in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the NBA.

The Milwaukee Bucks play their home games in the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The team is currently owned by Herb Kohl, a U.S. Senator. The Milwaukee Bucks are coached by Larry Krystkowiak. The official colors of the Milwaukee Bucks are hunter green, silver, deep red, and white.

The Bucks were founded in 1968 and have been in Milwaukee ever since. Over the team's history, they have won a total of 13 division titles. The Bucks won their division in 1971-1974, 1976, 1980-1986, and 2001. The Bucks won two conference titles in 1971 and 1974, and they won their only NBA Championship back in 1971.

Seven former players for the Bucks are currently in the National Basketball Hall of Fame. Those players are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dave Cowens, Alex English, Bob Lanier, Moses Malone, Oscar Robertson, and Julius "Dr. J" Erving. K.C. Jones, a former assistant coach for the Bucks, is also in the Hall of Fame; however, he is in the Hall of Fame for his playing career with the Boston Celtics.

The final member of the Milwaukee Bucks family to be in the Hall of Fame is Wayne Embry. Embry became the first African-American to serve as a general manager in NBA history when he started working at that position for the Bucks in 1971. He also became the first African-American to serve as a team president in the NBA, which he did for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Milwaukee Bucks have retired a total of seven numbers. The players whose jersey numbers have been retired are Oscar Robertson - 1, Junior Brideman - 2, Sidney Moncrief - 4, Jon McGlocklin - 14, Bob Lanier - 16, Brian Winters - 32, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 33.

Some other former fan favorites in Milwaukee include Ray Allen, Vin Baker, Moses Malone, and Glenn Robinson. While the Bucks have seen some success in their history, they have also had several down years. The Bucks have owned the top pick in the NBA Draft on four different occasions. In 1969, they drafted Lew Alcindor, who later changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Milwaukee Bucks drafted Kent Benson with the first pick in 1977. In 1994, the team chose Glenn Robinson. The Bucks' most recent first overall pick came in 2005 when the team selected Andrew Bogut.
