A Basic History of the Phoenix Suns Basketball Team

The Phoenix Suns are a professional basketball team that plays in the National Basketball Association. The Suns play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in the NBA. They currently play their home games at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Suns are currently owned by Robert Sarver and coached by Mike D'Antoni. The official colors of the Phoenix Suns are purple, orange, white and gray. The home uniform is white with purple trim. The away uniform is purple with gray trim. The third, alternate uniform is orange with gray trim.

The team was founded in 1968. Since the team was founded, the Suns have won six division titles in 1981, 1993, 1995, 2005, 2006 and 2007. They have also won two conference titles in 1976 and 1993.

In the history of the Phoenix Suns, the team has had four former members go on to be enshrined in the National Basketball Hall of Fame. These four players are Charles Barkley, Jerry Colangelo, Connie Hawkins and Gail Goodrich.

When important members of the Suns retire, they are put into the Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor and have their number retired. The players in the Ring of Honor and their retired numbers are Dick Van Arsdale - 5, Walter Davis - 6, Kevin Johnson - 7, Dan Majerle - 9, Tom Chambers - 24, Alvan Adams - 33, Charles Barkley - 34, Connie Hawkins - 42, and Paul Westphal - 44. Cotton Fitzsimmons, a former head coach of the Suns, is in the ring of honor with the number 832, signifying his amount of wins as a coach. The last member of the Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor is Joe Proski, a former trainer for the team.

The Phoenix Suns all-time team records are dominated by Alvan Adams. Adams holds the record for most games played - 988, most minutes played - 27,203, most rebounds - 6,937, most steals - 1,289, and even most turnovers - 2,194, and personal fouls - 3,214. Walter Davis is the all-time leading scorer for the Suns with 15,666 points. Kevin Johnson leads with 6,518 assists. Larry Nance is the all-time blocked shots leader with 940 during his time with the Phoenix Suns.

The Phoenix Suns are currently one of the top teams in the NBA and are led by Steve Nash, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player. Amare Stoudemire is also a major factor in the success of the team. The Suns are known for playing a very high tempo style of basketball, in which the team simply tries to outrun and outscore opposing teams.
