The New York Giants were founded in 1925 when they joined the National Football League. Prior to the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the New York Giants played spent time playing in the Eastern Division, American Conference, Eastern Conference, Century Division, and Capitol Division of the NFL. After the merger, the Giants began playing in the NFC East.
The New York Giants have won a total of fourteen Division Championships. They won the NFL East in 1933-1935, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1944, and 1946. They won the NFC East in 1986, 1989, 1990, 1997, 2000, and 2005.
The Giants won the NFL Eastern Conference Championship six times in 1956, 1958, 1959, and 1961-1963. They won the NFC Championship three times in 1986, 1990, and 2000.
The New York Giants have won a total of six League Championships. They won the NFL Championship four times in 1927, 1934, 1938, and 1956. The team won the Super Bowl twice, Super Bowls XXI and XXV, for the 1986 and 1990 seasons.
The New York Giants began playing their home games at the Polo Grounds from 1925-1955. In 1956, the team moved its home games to Yankee Stadium where they played until 1973. The Giants played in the Yale Bowl from 1973-1974 and played the 1975 season at Shea Stadium. In 1976, the team moved to its current location, Giants Stadium, which is actually located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Fifteen former players for the New York Giants are currently enshrined in the National Football Hall of Fame. Those players are Morris Badgro, Roosevelt Brown, Harry Carson, Benny Friedman, Frank Gifford, Mel Hein, Sam Huff, Alphonse Leemans, Andy Robustelli, Ken Strong, Fran Tarkenton, Lawrence Taylor, Y.A. Tittle, Emlen Tunnell, and Arnie Weinmeister. Steve Owen, who was a player and coach for the Giants, is also in the Hall of Fame.
The owner and founder of the New York Giants, Tim Mara, as well as former co-owner Wellington Mara are both in the Hall of Fame as well.
The New York Giants have nine retired jersey numbers. The players whose numbers are retired are Ray Flaherty - 1, Alphonse Leemans - 4, Mel Hein - 7, Phil Simms - 11, Y.A. Tittle - 14, Frank Gifford - 16, Al Blozis - 32, Joe Morrison - 40, Charlie Conerly - 42, Ken Strong - 50, and Lawrence Taylor - 56.
The New York Giants are currently owned by John Mara and Steve Tisch. The head coach of the Giants is Tom Coughlin, and the general manager is Jerry Reese.
The official colors of the New York Giants are royal blue, red, gray and white.

Post a CommentBack in the early 80's I was watching a Giants game inwhich Pat Summerhall was calling on CBS. They switched to the stands and a fan was on fire. I was always wondering what was happening. I had heard there was a game when fans burned their seats. Was this from that game?
