A Beginner's Guide to Pet Society

Pet Society might sound like a local gathering for canine and feline fanatics, but it is actually an international sensation and anyone can join in on the fun! Pet Society is a cross-platform, digital pet application developed by Playfish for social networking sites. This online game is featured on such popular social networking websites as MySpace and Facebook. It is single-player, however there is multiplayer interaction. This article will provide in introduction for those uninitiated with the world of Pet Society.

A beginning Pet Society player starts by designing a pet. The player has control over the gender, color and features of the new pet. Additionally, a name will be given at this point. Names vary in terms of originality and creativity. Some are simple, like "Jeff" or "Tina," whereas others out there include "Jumby," "Tekila," and "Thindir." Of course, something to keep in mind is that with an international phenomenon like this, not all names are English in origin and there is a wide array of colorful origins.

When setting up a pet, keep in mind that there are stylists available and names, features and colors may be changed at a later time. So a new Pet Society player shouldn't feel too anxious when creating their pet!

After creating a pet, the player is transported to a house the pet "owns." Everyone starts with a small room, but it can be decorated with furniture and artifacts which may be "purchased" from various stores. The walls and tiles for the pet's house may also be changed as the player sees fit. Beyond furniture, there are luxury items, like Jacuzzis, and gadgets, like televisions and laptops.

Pet Society players have a variety of activities they can do like washing, petting, and brushing their new virtual friends. And a major part of the game entails taking such actions as: visiting other pets, shopping, and even fishing! Shopping for clothes, accessories, and furniture will help upgrade a pet and provide greater social status.

Pet Society is a single-player game, but the interaction with others is essential for success. Coins and Paw Points can be awarded from visiting other pets. There are other ways to earn the coins and Paw Points, however. Awards, the Daily Lottery, and hurdle races are all activities which can lead to rewards. And non-participants can actually bet on which pet will win the hurdle race!

There are many Pet Society players worldwide. The "most popular girl in Pet Society," a title bestowed to A-ya Chiu by Pet Society Anonymous' Soyon Im, is from Taiwan and has over 3,200 Facebook connections. Due to her popularity, her pet is very rich and has all the newest and coolest items available.

Beyond using the application on your social networking site of choice, you can also join Pet Society clubs (www.petsocietyclub.com) or keep up with the PS news (www.petsocietynews.com). These sites will help keep you abreast of new development and find other Pet Society members. It isn't uncommon for members to request others to stop by and visit their pets.

Pet Society has become an entire culture in the online world. If you are interested in playing, use your Facebook or MySpace account, sign up, and start watching your pet develop!
