The fifteen rules of conduct are as follows:
1. You must not use any language which is offensive, racist or obscene.
This rule was created in order for game play to be as pleasant and enjoyable as possible for all players. Because this game is played by a large number of people from a variety of backgrounds, it is advised to be sensitive of the fact that someone may be much more offended at a comment than you may intend or expect.
Disguising offensive language with the use of symbols to replace letters is, according to the official website, "considered even worse."
Filling the chat window with unnecessary text is included as a violation of this rule because it detracts from other players' ability to communicate with each other.
2. You must not scam or deceive other players.
Created to protect new players and prevent spoiled play for all, scamming includes: (1) Making false claims about an item, such as claiming an item is rare when it isn't, (2) Switching items at the last second before pressing accept, and (3) Changing item price at the last second.
It is the player's responsibility to make sure the price being asked for an item is a fair price. Although overpricing is not included as a scam, it is advised against.
3. Asking for another player's password for any reason will not be tolerated.
4. You must not use or attempt to use any cheats or errors which you find in our software. Any exploits which you find must be immediately reported to Jagex through Customer Support.
This rule was created to make the game as fair as possible. For this reason, there are no cheat codes for the game.
To report a discovered bug or check to see if a bug has already been report, go to the Customer Service section of the website, or click here.
5. You should not attempt to impersonate Jagex staff in any way.
Only those names accompanied by a gold crown are official staff members, who will never ask for personal account details. Names accompanied by a silver crown are moderators.
6. Each account should only be used by ONE person.
As stated directly on the official website, "You may not sell, transfer or lend your account to anyone else, or permit anyone else to use your account, and you may not accept an account that anybody else offers you."
7. You must not use other software to gain an unfair advantage in the game.
All players are expected to be at the computer whilst playing the game, so this includes any bots or auto-typers.
8. If you create more than one RuneScape account, they must not interact.
This rule was created to maintain fairness for all players and keep items equally available to all players.
9. You must not encourage others to break any of the RuneScape rules.
10. You must not misuse RuneScape Customer Support.
This includes threatening or reporting an innocent person, supplying false information and abusing Jagex staff and was creating to ensure all players get adequate and accurate service to their genuine needs.
11. You are not allowed to actively advertise in the RuneScape game or RuneScape forums.
This obviously detracts from other players' ability to communicate with each other and could potentially lead to the reception of viruses or false game information.
A list of conditions for fan sites can be found here.
12. RuneScape items must only be exchanged for other items/services within the game.
It is important to the makers of the game that real life status in no way reflect game playing ability.
13. To protect players' safety and privacy, you must not ask for personal details.
These details include a player's full name, home address or telephone number.
14. Forums must be used respectfully at all times.
Just as rules are made to ensure a fun environment for the game itself, this rule ensures a safe environment in the game forum.
15. Please do not block the Adverts in free-to-play RuneScape.
Advertisement are used in order to create the free play. The sponsors pay for the advertisement space and expect their adverts to be seen. Blocking them could ultimately lead to less sponsors and no free version at all.
It is important to know that anyone found in violation of these rules risks their expulsion from the game entirely. It is strongly advised to follow the rules to ensure you won't be banned from the game before you even start.
