A Biography of Carlos Mencia

Sarah E Leach

Carlos Mencia's ability to cross the racial and social economic boundaries has given him the longevity and success many comedians seek their entire careers. ''The diversity of my audience is so stunning now, it's amazing," stated Mencia. Carlos reaches his audience by exposing the hypocrisies our society has created. Bring to light those things that many people think but never say.

During his 2001/2002 tour titled "The Three Amigos", Carlos sold out multiple shows at 1,500-3,000 seat arenas. The success of this tour, which included Pablo Francisco and Freddy Soto, caught the attention of Miramax Film executives and a deal was done to film 3 of the sold out performances. The Three Amigos, Not for the Easily Offended Live in San Jose, and No Strings Attached are all currently available on DVD.

Sometimes called controversial, Mencia's wit bites hard. "I think we all feel the same things most of the time, we just don't know how to put it to words. When I'm on stage, I say it. The truth makes people laugh," Carlos says. . "I've gotten in trouble with every race you can imagine," explains Carlos. "They say, 'I can't believe you talked about this - you're racist.' And I say 'How can I be racist? Isn't racism exclusionary? If all of you are offended, that's because I'm including every race in my jokes."

Until recently Mencia was best known for his HBO Comedy Specials, one was even nominated for a CableACE Award, his back to back episodes as host of Later on NBC and the flawless set he preformed on his first appearance of The Tonight Show. In 2005 Mencia was given his own ½ hour comedy show on Comedy Central. Mind of Mencia was an immediate hit seen in 87 million households nationwide and was the highest rated new comedy series that summer.

With season two of the Mind of Mencia ordered, Comedy Central's planned its first multi-platform launch. Season two would be available via Broadband, Mobile, Video-On-Dem and, Pay-Per-View, iTunes, DVD, On-Air And Live Tours. With that said, Carlos planned his major US tour. The 50-city "Punisher Tour" sponsored by Sierra Mist and Comedy Central Live has been selling out in record times. Mencia is hungry to work and has added performances to this run, which is now at 80 shows.

While touring the country in a bus featuring his face on the side, Mencia discovered that he is more recognizable than he ever thought. "I'll wake up to people honking horns," he said, "the only cool thing is that the chicks flash us once in awhile."

Carlos will be making the transition to the big screen with his upcoming film titled The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller. The film is currently in production and is scheduled to be release in September 2007. Mencia is a man that likes to keep busy and can be heard in the animation film Farce of the Penguins staring Bob Saget.

Carlos Mencia was born in Honduras but raised in East Los Angeles. Carlos spends his leisure time with his family and close friends. He aspires to serve as a role model to the young. "I grew up in the projects and I know how important it is for kids to have hope. I want them to look at me and say, 'Man, I could do that." Through the concept of unifying laughter, Carlos Mencia is taking actions to make it a reality in daily life.

"Sometime listed as controversial, Mencia's wit bites hard."

Oh it "bites hard," all right. It ABSOLUTELY bites: in fact, EVERYTHING about Mencia bites.

    * "I think we all feel the same things most of the time, we just don't know how to put it to words. When I'm on stage, I say it. The truth makes people laugh," Carlos says.*

Then everyone should be cracking up and pissing themselves big-time, when I write that MENCIA SUCKS! It's amazing how he's such a legend in his own mind, but still finds it necessary to rip off everyone else's material... he's the mental patient who steals a celebrity's personality, because he has no life of his own, and thinks he's the real person.
