A Biography of Morgan Freeman and His Accomplishments

Morgan Freeman was born on June 1st, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Los Angeles Community College prior to serving several years in the US Air Force. He has publicly criticized Black History Month and doesn't partake in any events saying " I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history." Also saying "the only way to stop racism is to stop talking about it," He has quickly gone from community college to one of the greatest actors of recent times. He's been in such classic movies like Million Dollar Baby, Shawshank Redemption, and the Dark Knight.

Freeman was born on June 1st , 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. The son of Mayme Edna, who was a cleaner, and Morgan Porter Freeman, a barber. His family lived in Gary, Indiana, Greenwood, Mississippi, and finally Chicago, Illinois. Though his father died of liver cirrhosis in 1961 and he was sent to be taken care of by his grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi. Freeman started acting as early as eight taking the lead role in a school play. When he was 12 he won a Mississippi state drama competition. In Mississippi he attended Broad Street High School, where he hosted a radio show. In 1955 he turned down a drama scholarship from Jackson State University and signed up to join the United States Air force as a mechanic. On august 3rd 2008 Freeman was injured in a car accident. His 1997 Nissan Maxima flipped several times off of the freeway. He and his passenger Demaris Meyer were rescued from the vehicle and taken by helicopter to The Regional Medical Center. Freeman broke his arm, shoulder, and elbow in the crash and required surgery to reconstruct his arm. Alcohol was not the cause of the crash and just after the crash at the hospital Freeman was joking to a photographer.

Morgan Freeman has appeared in over 25 films, 8 T.V. Shows, and won 3 awards. Including ; the 1990 Golden Globe Award For Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for the film Driving Miss Daisy, the 2004 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Million Dollar Baby, the 2004 Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor again for the film Million Dollar Baby, the 2007 Outstanding Contribution to Film and TV gong at the the screen nation film and TV awards, he was a guest of honor at the Cairo International Film Festival, in 2003 he received the Crystal Globe award for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and in 2007 he and his wife were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. Also he was nominated multiple times for the Academy Award of Best actor for his role in Shawshank Redemption and Driving Miss Daisy. He is one of the most well recognized actors of this day and age and has an unmistakable voice. His voice usually bleeds into his characters since he usually plays calm quiet characters. In 2005 he was cast as the narrator in the North American Release of the film March of the Penguins which won an academy award for best documentary.

Freeman is still pushing out films quickly. He has 3 films already planned as far ahead as 2010. There were rumors after the car accident that Freeman would stop making films. Obviously this was not true because there are two post production movies starring freeman coming out in 09. Morgan Freeman has achieved great things in his life, and has been a great inspiration to all of us. I am looking forward to seeing his future works and will be waiting to see what he has in store next.
