A Bird's Eye View of Terra Nullius* (No Man's Land) (poem)

Mary Naylor confirmed
There's a little bird, dancing in the tree,
Hopping on a branch, she doesn't seem to see,
Wildcat - crouching and sinuous is she!
Oh, please, Wildcat, can't you just let her be?

Tiny bird, you don't seem to fear her.
Preening your breast, do you even hear her?
Look! King of the tree, Wildcat, creeps ever nearer,
Fly, lovely sky-flower, for you must steer clear of her.

Let me recapitulate,
That it's never, ever too late,
Fly, sweet bird, do not hesitate,
Surely, building your nest can wait.

Hear wicked Wildcat roar, "THIS IS MY TREE.
I represent civilized, Christian society.
I rule life in these branches, both birds and bees.
SHOW ME YOUR PASSPORTS, if you pleahissss!"

Wildcat is far from claw-less,
Take flight now, for in her heart she is lawless,
Don't stop to sing, I know your song is flawless,
Life under Terra nullius can be hard - but here is some solace,

Let me recapitulate,
That it's never, ever too late,
Fly sweet bird, so not hesitate,
Surely building your nest can wait.

"Terra nullius is a Latin expression deriving from Roman Law meaning 'Land belonging to no one' (or 'no man's land"), which is used in international law to describe territory which has never been subject to the sovereignty of any state, or over which any prior sovereign has expressly or implicitly relinquished sovereignty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_nullius

Hi Mary, So glad to see you and get to read your poetry again.
Loved your poem about the little bird. I have a hawk that threatens my non suspecting birdies and rabbits. I do try to chase them away before their fate is sealed. We must warn and defend the weaker when we can.
