A Birthday Surprise

I decided to try to surprise my boyfriend on his birthday. I told him that we really did not have to money to celebrate his birthday and that I would make it up to him. I did not plan anything too big just a small get together with family. When he came in we all, did the surprise thing and sang happy birthday to him. He really seemed surprised and maybe even a little startled, which was a first. After a few minutes of him putting his jacket away and what not, he came back out and finally blew out the candles, which were turning into melted stubs on the cake. I was so excited that I finally was able to surprise him since usually it was the other way around.

I turned to him and asked, "What did you wish for?"

Without missing a beat he dropped to one knee opened a ring box and answered, "I wish you'd say yes."

I had never been so surprised in all my life. I began to cry and laugh all at once and said yes.

That was a few years ago, we are happily married now and I still have not been able to beat that surprise.
