A Blackened Smear

A Powers
A blackened smear to catch your eye.
You either die to live, or you live to die.
And the stitches I've torn, and the lies I've sung
I'm repenting now that the deeds are done.
And all of the words that Shakespeare said
about acting out the cries of the dead
come to me as I lie awake
and Satan waits, my soul to take.
But if I'm stupid or if I scream,
then he has won and I loose the dream.
So I grit my teeth and take the brand
and carry eternal the mark of the damned.
