Do you believe in past lives, spirits beyond the grave or the ability to read one's mind? I don't either but sometimes very odd things happen between beings that make you wonder.
Last weekend I was with my dear cherub clone daughter and as we were getting ready to leave to drop her back off at mom's, I thought to myself, "I need to get some ice for the cooler." Before the thought passed through my brain stem she said, "Need to get ice?" I looked at my mother and said, "Did you say anything to her about getting ice?" No she didn't. So either my baby girl read my mind or she has one of the secret spirit friends doing it for her.
Well, that's kind of how I pick out beer. Hell, that's how I do just about everything: by whim of a powerful, unseen suggestion. Which is why I'm reviewing a beer instead of just drinking it for my own pleasure. Bravo.
I picked this blond pale ale by the mere fact that the cap spoke to me. Not with a voice, mind you, but with a suggestion of its brilliance via the raiments that it wears. Surely you think that I must be drunk at this point but I can assure you that I am not.
If only American Pale Ales had this kind of taste and not that dour, earth-feel, skunk-tail blow out, citrus-rind thing going on with them most of the time, I'd be more endeared to them. Put a cork in the grapefruit and let out a little lovely sweet nectar from the more noble fruits and my devotion to the style might be everlasting. Hops in moderation are extremely pleasing even to a candy craver in the beer realm. Add a tad of funky yeast and brew it to whoever's beer or gold standard quakes your britches just don't bring the pain in mass quantities and you and I will remain quite cautiously civil and affable (and quaffable!).
