A Blushing Moment in Motherhood

Alyssa Ast
At one time or another during our experience of motherhood out children catch us off guard and embarrass us, usually in public. My first embarrassing parenting moment happened to take place in a crowded Wal-Mart with my three year old son. After a morning of Christmas shopping my son and I arrived at the check out stand, finally ready to leave. My son was hanging onto the side of the cart as I was unloading the items in the cart onto the check out counter. I had my back turned to him when I noticed an odd smile creep across the young cashiers face. I turned back to see my son standing in the check out lane bent over with his pants down. Horrified, I quickly walked over and told him to pull his pants back up.

He calmly peered up at me with his innocent brown eyes and in a very matter of fact tone told me,

"I can't mommy. My butt really itches"

The cashier who had been trying to maintain a straight face though out the incident erupted in a hysterical laughter. She began laughing so hard she had to catch her self before she dropped my eggs.

Although this was a truly horrifying moment out of my parenting experience, I look back now on my journey through motherhood and can't help but laugh.
