The Process

What To Do

The first and easiest item to put in a nautical themed room is the anchor. Prop it up in a corner of the room. Dangle large fishing rope from it. Drape a net over it and attach the rest of it to the wall with a hammer and nail.

Next, you should try some netting, on the ceilings in the rooms you wish to decorate. You can attach the net to different parts of the ceiling. Then you can set different lightweight items inside it. Make sure that the items that you are setting inside the netting are of a lightweight plastic. Starfish, artificial fish and other seaweed items are excellent ideas.

Make sure to set plenty of interesting seashells around the room. The conch shell is the best type to really give you the feeling of the ocean.

When you want to use sand, you can use glass vases to put colored sands in (you can layer different colored sands for a great effect), and then fill with artificial flowers that remind you of the sea.

Statues of fish, other sea creatures and lighthouses, make excellent decorating items to set on tables and on windowsills. Be sure that you cover the tables with fabrics that are navy or aqua and have patterns of the sea on them.

Use small electrical water fountains to create the sounds of the sea. Set these on shelves, mantles or window sills.

Hang pictures of lighthouses on walls throughout your home. They can be small or large. Use the larger one on a bigger expanse of wall space. There are lots of other great ways that you can spruce up a room for a nautical feeling. Be sure to look at the other tips sections to add more pizzazz to your rooms.

Tips For Decorating

You don't want to overdo it. Less is more with nautical theme decorating, because if it is overdone it will look too cluttered. Keep to simple and interesting decorations.

Especially consider dressing up the bathroom in a nautical theme. It also works well in bedrooms, as well as other rooms.

When decorating, take your time and put on some great music to help you get in the mood. You should enjoy the time it takes to create your masterpiece, as well as indulge in the final product.
