This story is not for the faint of heart, it is a story of harsh reality, it is a story of a life full of hardship and triumphs. The first impression of this autobiography was one of a Cinderella tale but with more of a real life feel and less of the fairytale we all know and love. It details the authors life starting with being adopted into a life of prosperity, wealth and privilege few of us can imagine but with a catch. The catch begins with an evil adopted Mother that abused her emotionally and physically.
It moves on to tell of a life of struggle and adversity many of us could not cope with. It details her good hearted attempts to uncover a scam perpetrated by a one time friend and the horrors her, her pets and her family had to endure in the process. The story spins a yarn of love, deceit, greed, betrayal, loss, wealth and the everyday struggles of life. It also details what life is like in a small island community, the group think that prevails, and the prejudice that exists between the haves and have nots.
The story reveals details about the loss of two of her children, which any parent should never have to endure. It details the harsh cold shoulder she received from her immediate family in her time of extreme emotional need, due to the loss of her Daughter, because they thought they might have to give money for her medical bills.
This is a story crying to be told and anyone can gain knowledge from her life experiences. Knowledge of standing up for yourself, loving others, issues that deal with greed, and it can serve as a warning to those who truly need to know what is important in life. Things like giving love, giving help, showing kindness, and money isn't everything.
I told Linda that I would give an honest review of her book and the following are some of the drawbacks that I found. First off let me say that the story is a great one. However, the format was hard to follow. She used a screen play format in parts of the book and I personally found it distracting. I also found some of the book repetitive. Also, I found it hard to fallow in spots, due to her bouncing back and forth in time with no real purpose for doing so. Sometimes her book seemed like a work of fiction as well. Linda states that the book is factual and can be proven by her. That being said, I have no reason to doubt her. There are also a few misspelled words and mistakes in grammar. All in all, I found most of the book very interesting and heart wrenching, but I think she would have been better served using a ghost writer.
Thank you Linda for the read and I hope you don't find the review to harsh. Linda's main motivation for writing this book was so that her daughter will never be forgotten and could be remembered in ink and parchment for all of us who read this book to know her. Linda this was a laudable goal and rest assured, in that respect, you have been successful. Good luck in your future endeavors and tell Brian he sounds like a wonderful husband.

Post a CommentI got this book last week, I just finished reading it, I read celebrity autobiographies all the time like Hammond, Parkinson and French, But Bad Blood is far better than any of these other autobiography's. Although this woman may not be famous I cannot understand why she is not being raved about in the times, Richard and Judy and other reviews. The spellings are british and as far as I can see all are correct. I agree with Lauren although its a real tear jerker in many places it is so very funny in others. My view get a copy a.s.a.p.
This book is amazing, so frank, so open and at times tragic but so very funny it is an all round must read!
Wow You and I have something in common we are both writing autobiographies.Cant wait to read more.
A + FOR HONESTY.
Knowing your story as I do, my admiration for your strength and that of your husband is strong. And Alyce, even if it is self-published, no biggie. Apparently there have been some rather renown authors who self-published an early work. I wrote a 400 page historical novel and threw it in the trash after about the fifth edit. Got tired of looking at it, and self-publishing was just beginning to really grow. Now with all the online media, it has become a viable marketing tool. BTW Alyce, I am not raggin' on ya. I think your statement was a reasonable one based on the critique. I just wanted ya to know I am not just hassling you. I was just addressing the issue you raised. As you have said to me, Peace!
I to am reading her book, and it is everything Deez says it is. Linda Corby is a person of the most elastic of natures. As Deez said, It's not for the faint of heart. When I screw up the courage, I will finish her tale. Kudos Deez and of course, to you too Linda.
Quite interesting. I imagine it was a self-published book, due to your critique. Book has a great title.
really emotionalxxx
Looks like I could have used a proof reader. LOL. Way to many typo's now that I have reread this piece. No one is perfect.
I thought the book was very good. It is such an emotional report that I'm sure it was difficult for her to write and while their may be a few errors, some of it is actually the British accent that comes through loudly. Keep up the good work, it is another example of how one with money can literally do whatever they want to a little guy and not suffer any consequences. Very sad.
