A Brand New Twitter Login

Guy Siverson
Twitter is moving.

Yes. You heard that right. Twitter is moving to a brand new Twitter login approach in an effort to appeal to even more people. Even though Twitter is the fastest growing social network ever and currently has nearly 3 million accounts involved with it.

Nonetheless, Twitter believes it can do more to reach even more. Considering that I heard recently that 10% of people that join Twitter account for 90% of the activity, my guess is that they may indeed have a point.

Especially when you can read statements like the following on a variety of social networks not related to Twitter:

"I don't have anything to say to the world."

"People don't need to know what I am eating."

"Twitter is for businesses and professionals."

So Twitter is moving conceptually from "I" to "we" and from "me" to "ours."

The first step in this move was to completely redesign their entrance page. First thing people now see when arriving at Twitter is a big blue box which reads...

"Popular Topics By The Minute, Day, & Week"

I'm betting this title will be changing soon as it is a bit misleading in my opinion given that everything appears to be set to "today's" topics without the option of seeing an at a week or at a minute glance of the same information.

Twitter also clearly provides a search option on this page so that you can tailor your findings down to your specific needs and or desires. I tested this with hashtag words (#) as well as non-hashtags and the results were consistent with my Twitter expectations.

One of the things I believe that Twitter struggles with is making it clear where to login. However Twitter is not alone in this problem though I do not believe that the new look has made that any easier.

It appears that Twitters hope is by letting people know what the trending topics are from the start, those same people will realize that they do have something to say after all. My own personal guess is that this will not be enough for the vast majority of people to start actively engaging their Twitter followings. What I do admire about Twitter is that they keep looking for ways to make their system better rather than resting on the fact that they are the best social networking Website on the web ever. Given that, you now know why you will see a brand new Twitter login screen when arriving at Twitter.
