A Breakdown of the 2007 AFC East: The AFC East is like a SweetTart

Quakis
As, the football season gets closer and closer everyday I would like to take a preview of what the AFC East has in store.

First off I want to show my projected standings,

1. New England Patriots 13-3
2. New York Jets 9-7
3. Buffalo Bills 5-11
4. Miami Dolphins 4-12

That's what I think the 2007 AFC East standing will look like at the end of the season.

New England Patriots, having a coach like Bill Belichick and a team like the Patriots I am sure they are going to have a great season. They had a great off-season too with the additions of Donte Stallworth, Randy Moss and draft picks like Brandon Meriweather. Now the Pats are deep in WR and RB. They also have some of the top TEs in the league. I think Belichick is going to do everything that he can to win this season and I also think Randy Moss is in for a treat because he has had it easy the past couple of seasons and this is going to be a whole new world for him. Now for the schedule talk, first game is at 1:00 against the NY Jets. Since the Jets were such a threat last season stopping their win streak and coming close to them in the standing they are definitely not going to take them or any other team easy. Next few games may be easy. With the Chargers in week two, that looks like the biggest game, and Buffalo, Cinncy, Cleveland and Dallas I think they will start the season off at 5-1 or 6-0 in their first six games. There isn't any loss threat until the Patriots go visit the defending chaps Indy Colts. After that the Pats will then go visit the Ravens in week 13 and from then the toughest match up will be the Steelers.

New York Jets, having a season like they did last season I think they will still be a small threat to the Pats for the top AFC East spot. They had a decent off-season, keeping one of their top WR Jerricho Cotchery and acquiring Thomas Jones in a trade. They also signed QB Patrick Ramsey. They have a decent team and have some well rounded WRs and RBs. Overall I think they have earned their selves a 2nd place position. But, before I start talking about the Dolphins I would like to make a couple of comments about the Jets schedule. Playing the Pats and Ravens in the first two games they probably will start off 0-2 but, form then on the road looks easy until week 7 when they play the Bengals. I say they start off 4-3 in their first seven games. Their next biggest worries are in week 11, 12 and 15. When they play the Steelers, Cowboys and the Patriots.

Buffalo Bills, with the loss of Takeo Spikes and Willis McGahee I think their record won't be as good as last year but they might be better in the future. They did well in the draft but had trouble re-signing players. For example, Nate Clements and Landon Fletcher did not re-sign and as I mentioned earlier neither did McGahee or Spikes. But, they did mange to get some good draft picks and that's what matters. If they are building for the future they are on the right path and they will be a decent team sooner or later. Their schedule for the first 5 games is very tough though. Playing teams like the Broncos, Pats and Steelers. But, from then on you can expect a decent season. Some tough games here and there. Overall they will finish second to last in the standing.

Miami Dolphins, right now I don't see much future in this team and if you look at their off-season you'll understand why. First off, it was an under-par season and off-season. After cutting players Randy McMichael and Joey Harrington who were big help to the team's wins and drafting a WR instead of a QB in the draft I really think they are going to have trouble along the way. Their biggest addition was Joey Porter but that was it. With the trouble at QB I think they should have at least kept Harrington. He had a good season and now he's gone. Really this team is going to have to find away around these past few troublesome seasons and pick it up from hear on out. Now for the schedule review, for any other team this would be a dream to have their first 6 games like them but they will most likely struggle. Nothing will come easy for them this season.
