A Breath of Fresh Air in Illinois Republican Politics - Dan Proft

Anastasia Zoldak
On October 6 with a bit of a biased heart, I attended a Republican meeting where I was invited to hear a number of Republican primary candidates speak. My heart was heavy because, yet again, the legislatures of Illinois raised a fee. This time is was Driver's License fees by 200%.

To say I went into this meeting a bit sour on all politicians would be an understatement. So, you can imagine my surprise then when I actually meet a fiscally responsible Illinois Republican political candidate. His name is Dan Proft.

I must admit I wasn't impressed with the man before he started speaking because his brochure reminded me of every other tired Illinois Republican hopeful. I must say curiosity more than anything else prompted me to stay, or should I say hope.

What I mean to say by hope, is that with insider dinosaur Republican candidates, such as Martin Kirk and Jim Ryan, throwing their hats. I felt that the party would be dead in the water again. After all, how many times can you hear about family values without throwing up? IT'S ABOUT THE DYING ILLINOIS ECONOMY GUYS!!!

That is why I almost walked out on Dan Proft. After reading his brochure, I felt that I was going to get the same burnt out campaign rhetoric that every Illinois Republican spews as a matter of form. I was surprised.

Mr. Proft was a breath of fresh air. Yes, he spouted the same old "the system is broken" speech, but he then did something that as a Republican I had never heard in Illinois politics. He actually included his own party in the creation of the mess in Springfield. The last time I ever heard a Republican take on his own party was when Ronald Regan did it as Governor of California. We all know how his policies worked out.

Then Proft did something even more interesting he had solutions. I mean not the Barack Obama speak we have gotten used to, but detailed "the system is broken" and this is how we can fit it solutions. I was shocked. I even asked him the question that every Politician fears to hear "How are you going to handle the Unions?" And you know what? He had real answers that were realistic and possible.

Dan Proft is worth considering for the Republican Party's candidate as Governor. I think his fiscal beliefs and the fact he has actually run a business in Illinois speak volumes. Maybe, he will help us become a business friendly place again so we can have some real job creation in this State instead of growing unemployment.

I sincerely hope more Illinois Republicans take a look at Dan Proft before the 2010 February primaries. If you visit his website, he lists the events he'll be attending. He's worth taking a look at and if you like what you see, add $20.00 to his campaign.

Dan Proft will have to fight the old dog Republicans, who have had a strangle hold on the party and then he'll have to fight the Democratic juggernaut that has destroyed the Illinois economy.

I think that if he lets the impassioned individual that showed up during the Q& A session to come out more often; he could be the best Republican candidate this party has had in a long time.
