A Buyer's Guide to New Riding Lawn Mowers

Spring will be arriving soon and those of us in the suburban towns start to think about grooming our lawns and controlling our allergies. I recently replaced my conventional lawnmower for a new riding lawn mower. In the process I narrowed down my search to the following five riding mowers. I must say, I will not be able to help you with the allergy situation.

The first on my list is Poulan Pro PB22H54YT riding mower it has a smooth ride and is easy to handle. The mower covers a large service area making it perfect for very large areas of lawn. The engine is located in the front which provides for easy servicing. The blades can be turned on and off easily as it is operated by a button. In addition the 4 gallon gasoline tank is sized just right for the vast ground this mower can cover without refueling. A smaller version of this mower exists for those that have less lawn. The downside is that it is bulky and takes up quite a bit of space, the main reason why I did not purchase this for myself. Next is the popular Craftsman Brand Craftsman DYS 4500 riding mower. I must say this mower is high end and it is rather expensive. This mower is known for its ability to handle variant terrain, so if you have property that is not flat, this mower may be right for you. It is very quiet even with the cutting blades engaged. High end features include my favorite, cruise control. I passed this one up due to the high price. For further information visit www.sears.com

The Snapper RE200 RE1330 riding mower is a charm. It is has one of the tightest turn clearance, making it very easy to maneuver. Special features include the ability to keep the mower even and stable while cutting grass over varying terrain. The tank is rather small at only 2 gallons but is perfect for oversized lots. If you are on a budget like most of us today, consider the Simplicity Coronet 13-horsepower riding mower. It is perfect for ½ to 1 acre lots which is probably why it is so popular and affordable. Cutting height can be adjusted from 1 to 3 ¾ inches. This is not a high end mower but is adequate in controls and features. For further information visit http://www.simplicitymfg.com/coronet.php

Last on my review list is the Swisher Ride-King 52-Inch Zero Turning Radius Riding Lawn Mower. This mower is of commercial quality but affordable enough for the average consumer. It is extremely stable providing for smooth maneuverability. For further information visit http://www.swisherinc.com/zt2052.asp

It can be hectic when it is time to consider the purchase of a new riding lawn mower. Consider your needs and the amount of lawn in need of landscaping prior to making your final decision. More features usually mean a heftier price tag.
