A Call to Luddites

bw Frampton
Will you remember
where your feet shall be -
forever etched in memory
when the word is shouted
from atop mountains and
'crost seas
that worlds will collide and
Time has died
and the price of nicotine and
gas - because of rich men's greed -
shall rise
just to squeeze one more dime...
just one more nickle...
one more sheckle...

Will you remember
laughter roaring from the opposite direction -
Time a sacrifice to make us immune to infection
found in the voices of those in the Ivory castle
Laughter toppling mountains
rolling 'crost seas
We take what is ours
and do what we please
'cause, what the hell?
Time is breathing her last, pained gasp
and we, too, shall suffocate with her
Though the sign says "Blood"
the price could never be lower
on the wonderful day when the pampered shall see
they die just the same as we Luddites

(Do we wait until we hear a whimper in time,
or shall we rise and stand today?)

It amazes me how poor folks want to be rich, yet rich folks are never satisfied with what they have for they are always striving for more. Anyway I digress... I love your phrasing, excellent poem.

I think people are too enamored with gadgets and celebrity to participate in revolution; the situation will have to be much worse before most of them begin to pay any real attention. The people in the Ivory castles you mention have always tested the waters, just to see how far they can go, to see how much they can grab. And these days, they're grabbing everything while leaving their humanity behind.

There is a fine line between poetry and prophesy; revelation for revolution!
