A Camper's Review of Thousand Trails Camp Ground in Leavenworth, Washington

When my husband mentioned he wanted to go camping with the boys (we have an 11 year old and 2 year old) to experience nature I had second thoughts. I'm not a camper AT ALL and my memories from childhood of camping in Washington State were wet, cold, and dirty. We compromised on a Class A 32 foot RV and a camp site that I could actually see pictures of and read reviews. The Thousand Trails camp ground, though it's semi-private for members, has some spots that are what I would consider "retail" and available for rent by non-members such as ourselves. It's a great way for Thousand Trails to advertise their memberships and get you "hooked" on their campground without you shelling out $500 a year for something you may not be sure is going to be worth it.

Thousand Trails was truly a spectacular experience for our family. The sites were large enough for our rig and had a fire pit per site which made it really nice. Picnic tables were also at each site and we chose one close to the club house and swimming pool which made the 80+ degree weather much more tolerable. The boys loved the pool and we spent a good 2-3 hours a day just swimming and having fun. The pool is a really good size even when it's crowded. The lodge ended up being my favorite place with free wi-fi when I did need to check an occasional email and the only downside was the connection was pretty slow but it was more than I expected out there when I myself didn't have cell phone coverage.

The bathrooms/showers were spotless and I chose to bathe there instead of the RV for size, convenience, and some time away from the boys! The scenery was gorgeous and they even had a man-made lake where we fed ducks and Canadian Geese at our leisure. The tennis courts, basketball courts, badminton net, baseball fields, and playgrounds were frequented by many families and we even had a pickup game of baseball with a family of 7 girls. The staff was friendly and helpful and even let me borrow sporting equipment with just a driver's license instead of a membership card as I obviously didn't have one.

The only downside was the camp sites are really close together and we could hear/see our neighbors 24 x 7 but when we were in our RV it wasn't noticeable. If you aren't sure about a camping experience without some familiar privileges you can go "glamping" (glamour camping) at Thousand Trails and even the pickiest person will have a terrific time.
