If you are only interested in becoming an observer, the best thing you should do is try to find someone who can help set you up with a trial ride in the plane. You probably should make sure that it is exactly what you want. By taking a ride in the plane, you should be able to know if it is for you or not. This will be a test ride to determine your adequacy and if you are really the right person for the job. If you want to find someone or somewhere to do this, I would recommend Warbelows in Fairbanks, Alaska as they have been around the longest and have the greatest reputation in the Air Ambulance industry.
You will want to bring a camera and some paper to document what is necessary. You will need to be able to have some significant flight experience, so you want to be as prepared as you can when you decide to go on your test flight. Most Air Ambulances are able to fly at hight altitudes. The flight crew is very knowable and able to respond 7 days a week to any incident that they encounter. These professionals are also trained on a monthly basis to keep their certification current and up to date on regulations. This way they can become those most efficient of professionals that are out there.
Anyone who is interested in a profession in Air Ambulance can feel free to take a test ride. You can actually schedule a full training session to know if this is for you or not. You can also gain valuable experience and enable yourself to learn more and study, during downtime, when the plane is not in operation. There is so much to learn, see and do. If this is something that you think you might want to do, it will require dedication and hard work. These are some of the things you should be aware of as an Air Ambulance professional.
