A Cat Saved a Child from Wild Dogs

True Story

When I was 4 years old,
I lived in the mountains
Of Placerville Colorado.
The nearest house or store,
Was a mile away.

I was cornered by stray dogs
That were barking and growling.
I asked myself,
Will this be my last day?

For hungry dogs,
Will I be the answer
To provide a nourishing meal?
My cries were heard
By no one but my cat.
It jumped up high
On a fence post
And there it sat.

Then I heard a noise
A loud ERRIOW.
Was it a mountain lion?
Had a cougar
Come out of the woods?

I turned around to look
Where my black cat still stood,
On top of the fence post.
When I turned back around
The dogs were gone
Back into the woods.

After contemplating
What occurred,
I assumed the dogs,
Perhaps,
Had already had a round
With a mountain lion,
Or decided
They were not so hungry
After all.

Thanks to a brave cat,
I'm still here to tell it.
Maybe that's why I'm calm
When danger prowls,
Due to training
I'll never forget.

Do not underestimate
The value of a good pet.
The life of a child
May depend on it.

Amazing what a cat can do - ask any cat!

Interesting story. They say that animals are a mystery, and this proves it.

That cat did not require pet food. It was a walk up from the woods. It had a ferocious meow, quite scary.

Who would have thought - the dogs turned tail because of the meow of a cat! That was a good kitty, for sure! rcj

What a great verse! Cats are incredibly noble and smart....when they want to be.
