On May 29, 2011, not only will we celebrating the 100th anniversary race of the Indianapolis 500, it also marks the 50th anniversary of pace car driver, A.J. Foyt's first Indianapolis 500 victory back in 1961. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation couldn't have picked a more fitting driver for the Chevrolet Camaro Pace Car to be driven at the 100th Anniversary Indy 500 Race, then the four-time Indy race champ, A.J. Foyt.

As many of us know, A.J. Foyt, was not the first choice of the IMS corporation picked to drive the pace car at this 100 year celebration. Donald Trump was first asked to be the pace car driver, but later declined the invitation claiming it would have conflicted with his busy schedule. Although Foyt wasn't the corporations first choice, he definitely was a fan choice. A campaign was started on Facebook to "bump the Trump" from driving the pace car, after the billionaire business mogul ignited a national controversy claiming President Obama wasn't born in the U.S. and wasn't smart enough to be a student at Harvard. The accepting of the invitation by A. J. Foyt to drive the Indy 500 pace car in the "Worlds Most Important Race in History" is surely a victory for race-car fans across the world.

A number of events will take place during the month of May to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 Race. On May 7th, Emerging Tech Day and the Allison Transmission Balloon Festival took place at the IMS field kicking off the month long celebrations.

Pole Day on May 21st. will also be known as "Tom Carnegie Day" to honor the legend whose voice helped elevate the excitement of the Indy 500 for 61 years. Mr. Carnegie passed away on Feb.11 at the age of 91.

A.J. Foyt will place a commemorative "golden" brick into the famous "Yard of Bricks" on Tue. May 24 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway field. This event will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Foyt's first Indy 500 win in 1961 and the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500.

Even I, who have never followed the Indy 500, have heard of A.J. Foyt! This sounds like a fitting tribute, and better Foyt than Trump, that's for sure..
