A Changing Heart

Mike Powers
I
It's all about doin'
What's best for you,
Why bother with doin'
The just and the true?
Ya gotta do it to them,
Before they do it to you...

ConfiĀteor Deo omnipotenti
Et vobis, fratres,
Quia peccavi nimis...

II
Day by day,
Squinting through
Scale-covered eyes,
Looking without seeing,
Seeing without thinking,
Thinking only: "What's in it for me...?"

Cogitatione...

III
Listen, my friend,
And heed my advice:
Walk through this world
With guile and guise -
Why tell the truth
When a lie will suffice?

Verbo...

Say anything-
Do anything;
After all,
It's only Wrong
If you're Caught...

Opere et omissione:
Mea culpa,mea culpa,
Mea maxima culpa

IV
And yet...
In the stillness
Of the approaching night
A still small voice admonishes:
"From you who have been entrusted with much -
From you who have been given much -
Much will be demanded;
Much will be asked
Of you... "

Ubi caritas
Et amor,
Deus ibi est.

Wow! What an unusual poem! I didn't always understand the Latin, but I thought it added a richness to the poem. Loved the photo! I felt like I could have reached down and picked up a
    piece of that driftwood.
