A Cheap Way to Remove Tonsil Stones at Home that Actually Works

There's nothing that leaves a bad taste in your mouth like tonsil stones. If you've ever had them, there's no need to explain why you'd want those gross suckers out of there.

There's many "cures" out there for tonsil stones, but few of them can provide real relief. Here's a cheap way to remove tonsil stones at home that's effective, easy and gentle.

All you need is a small bottle with a pointed nozzle, such as the kind that Gly-Oxide comes in. You also need a mirror, such as the one in your bathroom at home. Empty the bottle and refill with warm water. Then look in the mirror, put the tip of the nozzle at the opening of your tonsillar crypt and fire away.

The stream of water should flush out any tonsil stones lodged inside. You can use things like a WaterPik to do this, but WaterPiks are often too powerful and can cause bleeding. Squeezing water out of a small bottle will provide a forceful enough stream to dislodge tonsil stones without damaging the delicate tissues of your throat.

It is important to flush out tonsil stones regularly. Bad breath isn't the only problem if you leave them in. Tonsil stones can also cause your tonsils to become inflamed or infected, so you definitely want them out of there.

The main problem with tonsil stones is you often can't even tell they're there, because they're embedded deep in a tonsillar crypt. Toothpicks, toothbrushes and other pointy devices can't reach way back there. But with a stream of water, you can flush out the tonsillar crypts completely.

Of course, there are other ways to remove tonsil stones that some people swear by. For instance, some people use bobby pins or similar objects to prod the tonsil stones out. This can work, but it can also cause bleeding or infection if you push too hard. Water is by far the safest, most hygiene method to remove those annoying tonsil stones.

A small investment in a cheap plastic bottle will go a long way in helping you stay free of tonsil stones at home.
