A Child in a Grown Up World

When Did the Child Become the Grown Up?

Sondra C
I recall the days
that the grown ups
had the final say
on what a child did

I remember being a child
and having no choices
in what I wore
or who my friends could be

My mind goes back to my childhood
and I have tears remembering
my lack of purpose
when I was a child

I recall that I had to eat
at a specific time
whether I was hungry
or just wanted to play

Being a child
in my generation
meant listening to the grown-ups
or
Going to Bed Without Dinner

Childhood days are filled with fun and games. Childhood in my days left the child without choices - except to obey

This sounds like a lot of homes in the not-so-long-ago, but I was one of the lucky ones I guess.

Good poem. I am a helper at a church group that encourages young to have a say. One of our goals is to give them a purpose in life. IT helps. Laura Everly

Those days are gone. I always had the "right" to disagree with my parents.

Yes, yes, how sad parents should realize that their children have some rights.
