Most mothers appreciate a homemade gift over a store bought one any day. In today's culture we are so quick to run off to the store and pick up the perfume or handbag that you know she'll like and give it to the kids to wrap for mommy. But lets face it, mom's can go to the store and buy stuff for themselves any day. On her special day, she deserves something from the heart.
Putting words down onto a page to share how you feel is one of the most intimate and memorable ways to communicate. You sit down with the kids for a few minute and you will have a memory that will be cherished for a lifetime.
Your kids will have fun but even more importantly you will be giving them time to reflect on their moms and to think about how she is special to them. It will provide the opportunity for your children to remember why they love their mother's so very much.
Start by talking to your child and asking them everything they like about their mom. This will help them get focused. Tell the kids they are going to make a fun project for mommy and show them all the supplies they get to use. When the kids see all the supplies they will be happy and enthusiastic too.
Using a practice sheet, you can write a simple poem by having your child either write their name down a column or write their mother's name. Then ask them to think of characteristics that their mom has that are special and unique to them that correspond to each letter in the name.
For example:
G - generous
R - ready to help
A - always loving
C - caring
E - enthusiastic
Be sure to have their crayons, pens, stamps at the ready. Have the children write the letters of the name large on the left in a column and then write out the rest of the poem. Have them decorate the rest of the page with pictures and decorations!
If you really want to go all out, you can also add cut-out pictures, jewels, stickers and eve noodles.
It will be a gift your mother will cherish forever.
