A Child's Lament for Mother's Day

Charlotte Kuchinsky

Her head is bowed in sorrow now

Where once she held it high.

Her hands are folded in relief;

Her voice is just a sigh.

There is no smile upon her face;

Or twinkle in her eye.

No lilt of laughter from her lips

To warm the evening sky.

My mother's face she might possess,

But she has not her soul.

So much of her has gone astray.

She is no longer whole.

I take her hand into my own

And press it to my cheek.

I say a silent prayer to God

One word for her to speak.

I bend to place her in my arms

Just one more time to feel

The love that sustained all my life

And bade my heart to heal.

One brief moment I think I feel

A touch of her embrace

And it is enough to sustain

Those days without a trace.

I walk away with renewed hope

This Mother's Day will bring

All that she deserves in her life;

The best of everything!

    This is both sad in nature and beautiful for the way you creatively flowed your words from the heart.

    Wow. This was so sad and touching. I will be praying for you both. That has to be one of the most difficult things to bear.
