A Child's Scary Road Trip

There is many ways to keep your child occupied when going on a road trip. Still, sometimes kids get bored and make faces at other cars and other childish pranks and kids get tired of being held in by a seatbelt. These are all things that are expected by parents when taking children on a road trip. But never is it expected that a kid will be scared of a traffic stop!

On one of our trips, my husband had drove through a red light by accident when it turned too quickly. It was our rotten luck for it to be seen by a policeman. We were told later that the only traffic light in that town was a known traffic trap.

When the police car's flashing lights came on behind us, we knew what was going to happen. Our four year old didn't. He started to cry and told us "I didn't do it. I didn't do it. Don't let him take me away!" We asked what him what was it that he didn't do, but he was too upset to say anything other than "I didn't do it. Don't let them take me."

The policeman told him he wasn't going to take him away and tried to calm him down. It wasn't working though so the policeman had my husband walk with him to his car while he talked to him and wrote a traffic ticket. Unfortunately it made my son think that the policeman was taking his dad away!

He stayed upset the entire time we was stopped and didn't feel better until we pulled away. We still don't know what he didn't do, but he did leave the seatbelt on the rest of the trip. His older brother wasn't phased though.
