A Christmas Miracle

Pat Lunsford
It was Christmas Eve and soft white snow

Blanketed the towns and villages below

While deep in the woods among all the trees

A woman travailed upon her knees

Covered with blood and in solemn distress

Discarded like refuse by his father's mistress

Illegitimately conceived and rejected with shame

To protect the integrity of his father's name

The God of heaven looked down from on high

At the plight of the orphan and then he drew nigh

Fear not little one for you will certainly live

To you a good home and parents I will give

Entering the woods the young couple did see

An absolutely perfect Christmas tree

But as they approached they heard a faint sound

And saw the little child upon the ground

What should we do? the young lady asked

I know he responded if you're up to the task

If he survives and you marry me

I will give him my name most happily

We must get him to the hospital right away

I believe he will live but still we must pray

The doctor approached with clipboard in hand

I'm sorry he said but I don't understand

How could this child have survived the cold?

It's impossible for a child just a few hours old!

It's a Christmas miracle the young man said

Apparently God wanted him alive not dead

And then he turned to his bride to be

Please my love will you marry me?
